I grew up around theatre, art, and music, so I definitely think that is why I enjoy Broadway and the arts in general so much. I think it's probably a comfort thing, because it is how I was raised and it is somewhere I feel safe and like I belong. I mean- the first musical I ever saw was Jesus Christ Superstar when I was 5 years old. I started singing around the time I started talking. When I was young my favorite movie was Annie. I liked to sing along and I even had a locket with an "A" on it just like hers. Performing is how I express myself, and like I said in my interview, you learn more about yourself and who YOU are with each character you play. It's a way to find yourself.
I'd say New York City is one of my 10 things about me because, believe it or not, I am very social and love being around people. New York, being a very busy place and a place that has so much support for the arts seems like an excellent place for me live. The first time I ever went to New York was the summer before my freshman year. It was a present for an excellent run as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. I had always known I wanted to have a career having to do with theatre or music or film, but it wasn't until I saw my first Broadway show, Newsies. I was sitting in the fourth row, orchestra, center. The overture started and Jeremy Jordan and Andrew Keenan-Bolger started singing Santa Fe. I started crying. I knew this is what I needed to do with my life. I walked out of that show with an experience hat was so much more than just my first ever Broadway show. I had such clarity. It's hard to put into words, but when you figure out what you were made to do, it's very clear and you just know.
